Returning to Work

Returning to work after the summer holiday you are presented with a choice about how you will show up in your work. If you’re like most people you’ll have a mixture of good and bad patterns of behaviour when you’re at work. Your journey of growth and development is happening in your practices and contemplation, in your meditation, in your ongoing education, your relationships and all the various weird and wonderful areas of your life.

But remember that it’s also happening in your work. For many of us we spend more time at work than we do in any other part of our lives. I spend more time at work than I do with my family.

How you are at work is how you are in life.

Maybe you might want to bring more joy and fun, more warmth and connection. You might choose to speak up for your values, or start a hard conversation that’s not being had. Maybe it’s time to let someone at work know how you feel - providing feedback can be an act of real generosity.

I’ve noticed that I have a tendency at work to rush from one thing to another at a furious pace, and I’ve noticed that this leaves me feeling empty and depleted at the end of the day – when I’m spending time with my loved ones. This is one thing that I’m working on now in my work: really cultivating a state of flow so that I’m feeling good throughout the whole day.

What’s something that you’d like to change about the way you are at work?
